Dr. Angela Beninga, D.O.

Dr. Angela Beninga is the Chief Medical Informatics Officer and Associate Director of Outpatient Rehabilitation at Shepherd Center, where she has served since 2012. She is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and subspecialty board certified in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.

Dr. Beninga earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She completed her internship at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan, followed by a residency in PM&R at Michigan State University and a fellowship in spinal cord injury rehabilitation at the University of Michigan.

Before joining Shepherd Center, she served as Director of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at the University of Cincinnati’s Drake Center and as an assistant professor. She has been named to Atlanta Magazine’s Top Doctors List every year from 2020 through 2025.

Dr. Bradley Kuhn, MD

Dr. Bradley Kuhn is a provider with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group. Dr. Kuhn received his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He then went on to complete a residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Utah Medical Center. Dr. Kuhn is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. 

Dr. Daniel LoVerde, D.O. 

Dr. Anthony LoVerde is a leader in pulmonary, critical care, and advanced cardiac support. He earned both his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Science from the New York Institute of Technology in 2012, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Hospital, and pursued fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care at Wake Forest University Medical Center, where he gained advanced expertise in ECMO and mechanical circulatory support.

Currently, Dr. LoVerde serves as Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at PRISMA Health, Medical Director of the Cardiovascular ICU, and Program Director for ECMO. He is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, where he directs an ECMO research lab funded in collaboration with Clemson University.

Nationally recognized, Dr. LoVerde is invited faculty for the American College of Chest Physicians, speaking annually at its international conference on mechanical circulatory support and cardiac critical care.

Chief Daniel Mills

Battalion Chief Daniel Mills of the Destin Fire Control District brings nearly two decades of frontline experience to the symposium. A dedicated member of Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 7, he has spent over 15 years specializing in the most demanding technical rescue operations, including high-angle, confined space, trench collapse, vehicle and machinery entrapment, structural collapse, and swiftwater rescue.

Chief Mills holds an Associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services from Northwest Florida State College and a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. He is a licensed Florida Paramedic, a certified Rescue Specialist, and a state-certified instructor in both Firefighting and Urban Search and Rescue.

Respected for his expertise in high-stakes, high-risk environments, Chief Mills has built a career defined by service, training, and a commitment to preparing responders for the toughest challenges they will face in the field.

Dr. Lorenz “Carl” Spengler, DO

Dr. Carl Spengler is an emergency medicine physician based in Hialeah, Florida, with more than two decades of clinical experience. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at University Hospital in 1996.

Dr. Spengler was among the first physicians on the scene at the Oklahoma City bombing, where he directed critical triage efforts during one of the nation’s most devastating tragedies. His work during that event was recently featured in the Netflix documentary Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror.

Throughout his career, Dr. Spengler has been recognized for his expertise in emergency care and crisis response, reflecting a lifelong commitment to advancing emergency medicine and improving outcomes for patients in both routine and mass-casualty settings.

Dr. Jeff Jarvis, MD

Dr. Jarvis is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and EMS, with a career in prehospital care spanning nearly four decades. He started in 1984 as a volunteer firefighter in rural East Texas and has worked as a paramedic in three states, maintaining an active Texas license to this day.

An accomplished educator and researcher, he served as Texas State EMS Training Coordinator and was the founding EMS Department Chair at Temple College. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed and industry publications on airway management, clinical performance, and EMS practice. Dr. Jarvis serves on the boards of NAEMSP and NEMSQA, co-chairing the measure development committee, and hosts the EMS Lighthouse Project Podcast, translating research into practical EMS solutions.

A proud Texas Aggie, he’s also a devoted husband, father of two adult children, and owner of two Golden Doodles and several cats, bringing the same passion to his family as he does to EMS.

Dr. Ryan P. Dumas MD

Dr. Ryan Dumas earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a general surgery residency at UT Southwestern. He trained in trauma and surgical critical care at the John Paul Pryor Shock Trauma and Resuscitation Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Today, he serves as Associate Professor of Surgery and Section Chief of Acute Care Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.

A national leader in trauma care, Dr. Dumas pioneers the use of video technology to capture and review trauma resuscitations, improving patient care, quality, and education. He has developed and implemented Trauma Video Review programs across the country, led the first multi-center trial in this field, and is the principal investigator for a collaborative effort spanning over 40 centers. His research focuses on trauma surgery and artificial intelligence, with numerous peer-reviewed publications advancing videographic analysis as a transformative tool in resuscitation.

Dr. Sam Galvagno, DO

Dr. Sam Galvagno began his career as a paramedic before attending medical school and has stayed deeply connected to the prehospital community for over 25 years as a researcher and medical director.

He is board-certified in anesthesiology, critical care medicine, neurocritical care, EMS, transesophageal echocardiography, and public health. A U.S. Air Force veteran with more than 27 years of service, Dr. Galvagno currently serves as a Mobilization Assistant at the 711th Human Performance Wing in Ohio. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and numerous books and book chapters, with a primary research focus on aeromedical critical care.

Dr. Galvagno’s work bridges prehospital, critical care, and military medicine, bringing cutting-edge research and practical expertise to EMS and emergency medicine communities nationwide.

Dr. Zaffer Qasim

Dr. Qasim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in prehospital and critical care. He earned his medical degree from the University of Karachi and completed postgraduate training in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in the United Kingdom, where he also served as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and a BASICS Prehospital Care Physician.

Dr. Qasim moved to the United States for advanced training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland, before joining Penn. His academic and clinical interests include advanced trauma and endovascular resuscitation, airway management, simulation, and prehospital care.

Through research, education, and hands-on practice, he is dedicated to improving outcomes in both hospital and prehospital emergency settings.
